Why We Do This
The James River Jazz Festival was founded on a simple belief: that jazz — America's original art form — deserves a home as alive and storied as the music itself. Richmond, Virginia, with its deep roots in African American culture, its vibrant arts community, and its wild, beautiful river, is that home.
We exist to bring world-class jazz to the banks of the James, to celebrate the musicians who carry this tradition forward, and to create a gathering place where Richmond's past and future meet in the open air.
